Type 1 diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease.
In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.
18.2 million people in the United States (6.3 percent of the population) have been diagnosed with diabetes. 5 to 10 percent of all people with diabetes have Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Video Credits can be found here http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/149462 In 2014 a JDRF Ride to Cure took place in Tahoe. Two hundred of people took part in the ride. More than $950,000 was raised. It’s a great social event where everyone who is thoughtful, cares about the future, should take part, ride, donate and get involved. The rout is an amazing mountain road with wonderful scenery. The riders do not just experience a nice ride, but also watch amazing parts of the country. Many people stand by the road and cheer the riders and try to support them. The rout goes through forest roads and mountain hills. It’s an important social ride during which every rider follows one single goal – to help JDRF research team to find the ultimate cure for T1D. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leading global organization funding T1D research. Millions of people around the world live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), a life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults. There is no way to prevent it, and at present, no cure. JDRF works every day to change this by amassing grassroots support, deep scientific knowledge and strong industry and academic partnerships to fund research. The JDRF identity was created with these key considerations in mind. We have dropped the formal name “Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation” from our identity and will be known simply as JDRF. This better reflects our commitment to work for ALL those with T1D. The North Highlands Census Designated Place had a population of 45,531 as of July 1, 2016.
