The ketogenic diet and type 1 diabetes go together really well (for me) because they allow me to have better stability in my blood sugar, sustained energy and faster recover. On top of that I feel less hungry and have to eat fewer meals without being penalized in terms of my energy when I eat LCHF (Low Carb High Fat). I will do some videos dedicated specifically to this diet if you’re interested, so drop a comment and let me know. The ketogenic diet is growing in popularity but many doctors still don’t understand the difference between ketosis (good) and ketoacidosis (dangerous!)
This is a blog post I wrote several months ago as I was beginning this way of eating ( there are more posts at the LivingVertical site linked in this post) http://livingvertical.org/blog/2015/09/01/the-ketogenic-diet-and-type-1-diabetes-what-i-eat/ )
Many athletes are using a ketogenic diet including climbers Dave MacLeod and Neil Gresham–completely unrelated to diabetes. I discovered this diet because I needed something to stabilize my blood sugar and it’s done wonders for my diabetes AND my climbing.
