If you live with T1D, you spend a lot of time thinking about your blood-sugar levels now and worrying about the complications that T1D may one day bring. You don’t want anyone else you love to ever know the physical, emotional and financial toll this disease takes. You want a cure. On October 16, 1991, the Luby’s Massacre occurred in nearby Killeen, Texas. 6 of the 23 who died that day were from Copperas Cove, including Suzanna Hupp’s parents. Suzanna Hupp and Kirby Lack, both who lived in Copperas Cove at the time and survived the mass shooting, also appeared on Bio’s I Survived…. Lack is currently on city council, and Hupp, now a former Texas House Representative for District 54, helped passed the conceal carry laws in Texas.
On Memorial Day, May 25, 2015, an EF1 tornado touched down just west of the town, during the 2015 Texas–Oklahoma flood and tornado outbreak. Fortunately, the tornado shifted to the northeast before reaching Cove. However, that same tornado hit Pidcoke, a small community just north of Cove. T1D is a worldwide disease which affects every part of the world. It’s not cause by the diet or person’s fault – it just appears in one’s body and the pancreas stop to produce insulin. People’s life with diabetes is very complicated – constant finger pricks and insulin injections are the inseparable companions of T1D people. This disease isn’t reflected on person’s appearance – T1D people look like ordinary people. So if anyone wanted to recognize a T1D person it would be impossible. T1D looks like every person with this disease, like his relative or a friend. All these people need help and support and their close people are always with them. It is the reason why they struggle – because it really encourages. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector comprises establishments providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with those establishments providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance, and finally finishing with those providing only social assistance. The services provided by establishments in this sector are delivered by trained professionals. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
