They also know that Type 1 Diabetes can result when something in the environment, like a virus, tells your immune system to go after your pancreas. Most of people with T1D have signs of this attack, called autoantibodies. They are presented in almost everyone who has the condition when their blood sugar is high. Type 1 diabetes can happen along with other autoimmune diseases, like Grave’s disease or vitiligo. The symptoms are often subtle, but can become severe. Prescott Valley wildlife that occupies our desert grasslands is among the area’s treasures. The valley is surrounded by the Prescott National Forest, which includes the Bradshaw Mountains to the south and Mingus Mountains to the north. The nearby forest is home to several threatened or endangered plant and animal species including the bald eagle, Gila monster, and the Arizona cliffrose. Herds of pronghorn roam the open meadows surrounding Prescott Valley, accompanied by jackrabbits, cottontails, and occasionally white-tailed deer. The Health Care and Social Assistance industry includes establishments and services such as: hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities and out-patient care centres; offices of health practitioners (i.e. dentists, doctors, optometrists and chiropractors); medical and diagnostic laboratories; home health care services; ambulance services; social assistance services (i.e. for children, youth, the elderly, families); community food, housing, emergency and relief services; vocational rehabilitation services; and daycare services. During JDRF Children’s Congress of 2013 many T1D grown-ups shared their life experiences of living and struggling with this disease. Charlie Campbell is a T1D bus driver – the first licensed bus driver with diabetes. Charlie is living, breathing and proving that diabetes doesn’t really have to slow one down. T1D people can still live their dreams and chase their passions even with diabetes. Charlie is sure that he is a better driver because of diabetes rather than despite. And during the congress kids can see true models of various destinies and lives of T1D people, who do exciting things. All these grown-ups told the little ones what they can do with diabetes and how it is to live a normal life dealing every day with diabetes. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent!
