Alpha Lipoic Acid and Thyroid
Alpha lipoic acid is a great nutrient and if someone has thyroid problems should be careful when taking this substance with their medicine. The thyroid gland is a small organ located on someone’s neck that can look similar to a butterfly. In may seem like it’s not that important of an organ however if it gets damaged it can negatively affect someone’s weight and mood levels like depression.
If someone is taking medication for a thyroid problem they should consult their doctor before taking extra ALA since it can interact with this nutrient. If someone is taking thyroid supplements they should also be very careful of taking alpha lipoic acid because in can increase someone’s metabolism even more and can effect hormone levels.
Alpha lipoic acid also known as ALA is a fatty acid that is good for the human body. It’s created in cells of the human body and its number one job is to convert sugars into energy. As you can probably imagine it can be very helpful for people who want to lose weight since it can help burn away fat and can help regulate blood sugars since it burns away glucose.
One of the very awesome things about this fatty acid is that it’s an antioxidant and can work in both water and fatty tissue. Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals which stops their destruction and thus improving health in the human body. The fact that it can work in both water and fatty tissue means that it can penetrate many areas of the human system. For example it can be great with nerve damage and has been shown to help with the disease peripheral neuropathy.
Nerves affect so many things and the disease Parkinson’s as well Alzheimer’s is affected by this as well. Well, ALA can assist with both of these ailments as well as liver disease, cataracts, cancers, and even wrinkles plus many other health problems.
