Lee Ducat and Carol Lurie became involved in this problem and organized a great thing. The diagnose of diabetes is a hard moment for the family. Both women experienced it personally and deiced to act radically. The Ducat family and the Luries had their sad stories of founding out of T1D. Boy’s doctors ensured them that they would be fine, but mothers understood all the seriousness of the disease. What they both wanted was to see a cure. The problem was in money. T1D researches need money and Lee decided to find money for this great thing. Lee knew how to do it – the 1970, May 21st was the day of JDRF birth. First it was JDF – Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and only in 2009 it was renamed to JDRF – research foundation. Lee was a tiny woman with a strong heart – she had a heart and a maxim never to take no for an answer. Freeport (officially The Incorporated Village of Freeport) is a village in the town of Hempstead, Nassau County, New York, USA, on the South Shore of Long Island. The population was 43,713 at the 2010 census. A settlement since the 1640s, it was once an oystering community and later a resort popular with the New York City theater community. It is now primarily a bedroom suburb but retains a modest commercial waterfront and some light industry. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. Alfred F. For now, doctors don’t know the exact reason that lead to T1D, but they do know that your genes play a role. They also know that Type 1 Diabetes can result when something in the environment, like a virus, tells your immune system to go after your pancreas. Most of people with T1D have signs of this attack, called autoantibodies. They are presented in almost everyone who has the condition when their blood sugar is high. Type 1 diabetes can happen along with other autoimmune diseases, like Grave’s disease or vitiligo. The symptoms are often subtle, but can become severe. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent!
