One should pay attention to weight and diet, maintain good habits, use pre natal vitamins and folic acid, maintain healthy weight. Always bring about healthy diet changes to ensure that the baby is good and healthy. Eat balanced diet and eat servings of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, cereals, calcium rich food containing zinc, vitamin C, E, folic acid, nuts and legumes. Fish is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, but be careful. Avoid the fishes which are having high levels of mercury like the shark fish, mackerel, tilefish. Avoid processed meats, smoked and raw meats. Occasional glass of beer and a glass of wine would not affect the conception. Cut out on alcohol and smoking, caffeine, soda as they would harm the foetus. Take your doctor’s advice regarding prenatal vitamins and folic acid. 400 to 600 micrograms of folic acid to be taken three months prior to conception. Deficiency of vitamin D and B12 to be looked into. BMI should be noted. If obese and overweight make plans for dieting, have low fat food, high fibre diet, regular exercise, go for morning and evening walks, drink lot of water. Try for weight loss of ½ kg to 1 kg per week till you attain your adequate BMI. Over weight can lead to various other problems like PCOD, increased high blood pressure, miss carriage, gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. Take simple measures in your life like avoid lift and use the staircase, get down one bus stand before and walk to home, go for morning and evening walk with your partner, avoid chocolates, cakes, chips, cheese, butter and all the junk foods, avoid binge eating and binge drinking on weekends.
