More than 29 million people in the United States have diabetes mellitus and approximately 95% of those diagnosed have type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). An additional 86 million Americans have prediabetes. Self-management behaviors are important for control of T2DM. Determining factors that promote effective self-management behaviors may be significant for improving the well-being of patients with T2DM. Self-efficacy is positively associated with diabetes self-management and should be emphasized as an important intervention target in people living with T2DM. Various methods may be employed to promote self-efficacy including the use of technology for diabetes self-management.
