Type 1 diabetes in children used to be known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Alternative Names of T1D: Insulin-dependent diabetes; Juvenile onset diabetes; Diabetes – type 1. Type 1 Diabetes – In type 1 diabetes, your immune system mistakenly destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. Your body treats these cells as invaders and destroys them. This can happen over a few weeks, months, or years. When enough beta cells are destroyed, your pancreas stops making insulin, or makes too little insulin. Because the pancreas does not make insulin, insulin needs to be replaced. Insulin does not come in a pill. People with type 1 diabetes take insulin by injection with a syringe, an insulin pen, or an insulin pump. Without insulin, your blood glucose rises and is higher than normal, which is called hyperglycemia. Type 1 diabetes affects about 5% of people in the United States with diabetes. In the past type 1 diabetes was called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. It’s usually first diagnosed in young people but it can occur at any age. Type 1 diabetes is much less common than type 2 diabetes. Massillon is a city in Stark County in the U.S. state of Ohio, approximately 8 miles (13 km) west of Canton, 20 miles (32 km) south of Akron, and 50 miles (80 km) south of Cleveland. The population was 32,149 at the 2010 census, which makes it the 44th largest city in Ohio. Massillon is the second largest incorporated area within the Canton-Massillon, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the metropolitan area had a population of 404,422 and includes all of Stark and Carroll counties. The city’s incorporated area primarily resides in the western half of Perry Township, with portions extending north into Jackson Township, west into Tuscarawas Township, and south into Bethlehem Township. Health Care and Social Assistance comprises establishments primarily engaged in providing health care by diagnosis and treatment, providing residential care for medical and social reasons, and providing social assistance, such as counselling, welfare, child protection, community housing and food services, vocational rehabilitation and child care, to those requiring such assistance.Excluded from this sector are aerobic classes in Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries and nonmedical diet and weight reducing centers in Personal and Laundry Services. Although these can be viewed as health services, these services are not typically delivered by health practitioners. If you inject insulin three or more times a day then it’s a good idea to rotate your injection sites. Injecting in the same place much of the time can cause hard lumps or extra fat deposits to develop. These lumps are not only unsightly; they can also change the way insulin is absorbed, making it more difficult to keep your blood glucose on target. Follow these two rules for proper site rotation: Same general location at the same time each day. Rotate within each injection site. Insulin is absorbed at different speeds depending on where you inject, so it’s best to consistently use the same part of the body for each of your daily injections.
