Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin. But, not everyone with diabetes has the same problem. Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to rise higher than normal. It’s a dramatically serious and dangerous disease. The pancreas is a glandular organ in the digestive system and endocrine system of vertebrates. In humans, it is located in the abdominal cavity behind the stomach. Our pancreas produces insulin. The hormone insulin is what lets our cells turn glucose from the food we eat into energy. Insulin helps move the glucose from blood into our cells. Those with diabetes have problem with insulin. There are two main types of diabetes – Type 1 and Type 2. T1D is when one’s immune system mistakenly destroys the cells in ones pancreas that produce insulin. T2D is where the body doesn’t produce enough insulin, or your body doesn’t use insulin properly. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector comprises establishments providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with those establishments providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance, and finally finishing with those providing only social assistance. The services provided by establishments in this sector are delivered by trained professionals. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D.
