Crazy Pancreas 5k –
Chris is the inspiration for the Crazy Pancreas 5k to raise awareness about T1D, and to help raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help find a cure for Type I Diabetes. Chris was diagnosed with T1D when he was 2 years old. Now that he’s 5 he wants to share helpful tips that he has learned as a kid dealing with Type I Diabetes on a daily basis.
This weeks tip is about types of diabetes. There is a T1D myth that only kids can get Type I Diabetes, and that All diabetes are the same.
Fact: This can be confusing, because Type 1 diabetes, formerly known as “juvenile onset” or “insulin dependent” diabetes, is often first diagnosed in children, teenagers, or young adults. However, people may develop T1D at any age. The two main types of diabetes are Type 1 and Type 2. The effects of type 2 diabetes can be reversed with diet and exercise, but there is still no cure for Type I diabetes.
