Clifton Roberts and the Humane Party - Should You Vote Vegan in 2016?

Clifton Roberts and the Humane Party
Clifton Roberts is the Humane Party’s 2016 candidate for President of the United States. Together with his vice-presidential nominee, Dr. Breeze Harper, Clifton Roberts hopes to push forward the cause of animal rights through the Humane Party.

I made this video in response to The Onion Knight Show’s request for other vegans to raise awareness about Clifton Roberts and the Humane Party. I discuss the values of the Humane Party, and also explain why I am NOT endorsing Roberts for the 2016 election. As anyone who has watched my channel knows, I’m a pragmatist, and the Humane Party does not have the awareness that it would take to win the presidency during this election. This election is simply too important to vote for a third party, in my opinion.

I’m also disturbed by the Humane Party’s call for a blanket ban on GMOs. Clifton Roberts has voiced possible skepticism about vaccines (“do your research on vaccines”), and claims that insulin won’t be needed if people adopt plant based diets (this is pure ignorance, as type 2 diabetics may be able to eliminate their reliance on insulin, but even on a vegan diet, type 1 diabetics will lead shorter lives without access to synthetic insulin). I believe Clifton Roberts views on this topic to be poorly informed and unscientific.

Under many circumstances (even in the past election, for example), voting a third party is acceptable because neither of the dominant parties have candidates who are significantly different or pose a threat to democracy. I believe this election is dramatically different in this respect.

Donald Trump is simply far to great a risk to democracy in America. He’s shown himself to be unstable, and has even openly stated his interest in using nuclear weapons. As a Canadian, I find his views deeply disturbing. Additionally, his attitudes towards women, immigrants and minorities demonstrate that there is significant risk for disenfranchisement for these people were he to win.

Hillary Clinton might not be charismatic. She’s not vegan, and she’s not even what I would consider liberal. However, she is not threatening to disenfranchise wide swaths of American citizens, nor does she openly endorse escalating conflict with other nations.

This is the clearest choice in any presidential contest within my lifetime. If you haven’t cast your vote yet, please contemplate the consequences that it may have. Vote for great candidates at other levels of government, and support the Humane Party with a financial contribution if you support their values.

For those who will argue that it’s not a democracy if you are forced to choose between the lesser of two evils, please consider if you’ll have a democracy left to vote in should the other candidate be elected.
