Boardman is a large, sprawling suburb. It is a busy community south of Youngstown composed of many chain restaurants. It is one of the main shopping and retail centers for the greater Youngstown area. Its main competitor is the northern 422 “Strip” in Niles, Ohio (a similar suburb of Warren, Ohio).
While much development is centered on the 224 corridor, a new area of development (even further south) is surging along the South Avenue artery which parallels the southern extension of Interstate 680 between its Midlothian and Western Reserve Road exits.
Boardman abuts one of the Youngstown area’s most popular attractions, Mill Creek Park. Within the park grounds, there is an 11-acre (45,000 m2) rose garden, several small waterfalls, a lily pond with geese and turtles, marshlands, and Lanterman’s Mill, where grain is ground daily. In addition, there is a 36-hole golf course. Sean Busby, a professional backcountry snowboarder is also a diabetic person. He Has been struggling with this disease for nine years already. Diabetes didn’t stop him to practice snowboarding but even gave more strength and confidence in himself. Sean joined JDRF and tries to turn type one into type none. He organized a special social event – T1D for a Day. Sean invites everyone to join him and to experience what it’s like to have T1D for a Day. It’s not easy manage your blood sugar level all the time, but JDRF research team created such new devices, which make diabetics’ lives easier. Receiving text-messages from Sean, everyone can experience what it’s like to be a diabetic and what do T1D people go through every day. Type 1 diabetes in children used to be known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Alternative Names of T1D: Insulin-dependent diabetes; Juvenile onset diabetes; Diabetes – type 1. Type 1 Diabetes – In type 1 diabetes, your immune system mistakenly destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. Your body treats these cells as invaders and destroys them. This can happen over a few weeks, months, or years. When enough beta cells are destroyed, your pancreas stops making insulin, or makes too little insulin. Because the pancreas does not make insulin, insulin needs to be replaced. Insulin does not come in a pill. People with type 1 diabetes take insulin by injection with a syringe, an insulin pen, or an insulin pump. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. Since its founding more than 40 years ago by parents of children affected by type 1 diabetes, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has been committed to finding a cure for all those individuals living with the disease. Today, JDRF acknowledges that this commitment will not likely be fulfilled in the near term. Although our ultimate goal—curing type 1 diabetes—remains unchanged, we are equally committed to better treating and preventing the disease. These goals aim to ensure that both children and adults living with type 1 diabetes remain healthy so that they can fully benefit from a cure when it becomes available.
