Seven people told about their experience at the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. Everyone during the ride has his own reason to ride and help JDRF. Mike, a T1D rider said that it’s not about being a cyclist, it’s about putting control in the hands of those, affected by T1D. After the ride, Carissa, also a T1D rider became more open about her disease and changed her opinion and even feeling of T1D. She was not a rider at all, but the event changed her complete vision of herself. Robert and John, father and uncle of a T1D child ride for their boy and it’s not a race, it’s a ride to cure the disease. Also it’s a kind a race for the treatment. Tim, JDRF Ride coach, first joined the ride just like a coach and he saw all those people his opinion changed immediately. For Nancy and Tom, parents of a child with T1D, this ride gives a hope for better future. What is more important, that it’s not about the miles, but it’s about the cure – the main mission. The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with those establishments providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance, and finally finishing with those providing only social assistance. The services provided by establishments in this sector are delivered by trained professionals. All industries in the sector share this commonality of process, namely, labor inputs of health practitioners or social workers with the requisite expertise. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) kills the body’s beta cells that produce insulin which gives us the energy we need for everyday life. JDRF’s vision, the Beta Cell Restoration Program, will not only stop the autoimmune attack but also return the number of beta cells to a normal level. JDRF is developing vaccines that will re-train the immune system to eliminate autoimmunity and leave the beta cells alone. Type 1 diabetes (‪T1D‬) can occur in anyone—not just kids. If you or an adult you know has recently been diagnosed with T1D, check out the JDRF T1D Care Kit, a free resource containing information and tools to educate, support and inspire newly diagnosed adults. JDRF works every day to change the reality of this disease for millions of people—and to prevent anyone else from ever knowing it—by funding research, advocating for government support of research and new therapies, ensuring new therapies come to market and connecting and engaging the T1D community.

In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure.
