Health Care & Social Assistance sector comprises firms providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance and finally finishing with only social assistance. The services provided in this sector are delivered by trained health practitioners and social workers with requisite experience. Today, JDRF acknowledges that this commitment will not likely be fulfilled in the near term. Although our ultimate goal—curing type 1 diabetes—remains unchanged, we are equally committed to better treating and preventing the disease. These goals aim to ensure that both children and adults living with type 1 diabetes remain healthy so that they can fully benefit from a cure when it becomes available. Type 1 diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives. 18.2 million people in the United States (6.3 percent of the population) have been diagnosed with diabetes. Schaumburg has 19.22 square miles of land area and 0.11 square miles of water area. As of 2010-2014, the total Schaumburg population is 74,560, which has shrunk 1.10% since 2000. The population growth rate is lower than the state average rate of 3.62%. As of 2010-2014, the total population of Schaumburg is 74,560, which is 1.10% less than it was in 2000. The population growth rate is lower than the state average rate of 3.62% and is much lower than the national average rate of 11.61%. The Schaumburg population density is 3,857.04 people per square mile, which is much higher than the state average density of 222.21 people per square mile and is much higher than the national average density of 82.73 people per square mile. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. Diabetes is a group of diseases marked by high levels of blood glucose resulting from problems in how insulin is produced, how insulin works, or both. People with diabetes may develop serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, and premature death. People with diabetes can take steps to manage the disease and lower the chance of health problems. Simple lifestyle measures have been shown to be effective in preventing or delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes.
