Type 1 diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease.

Almost 64,000 people in Ohio are diagnosed with diabetes every year. Total health care and related costs for the treatment of diabetes in Ohio alone is about $12 billion each year. Up to 9.2% of pregnancies are affected by gestational diabetes.
