JDRF’s research goal is to discover, develop, and deliver advances that progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we find a cure. JDRF is driving research across the entire scientific spectrum, from discovery in the laboratory to delivery of new technologies and treatments to people with T1D.
The full impact of JDRF’s research investment extends well beyond our direct funding. Now more than ever, we see the value in leveraging partnerships with academia, industry and clinicians to ensure that the most promising research opportunities are funded and accelerated. JDRF often provides early-stage funding to research projects, and the results of those projects often lead to follow-on participation from many other entities – both other not-for-profit funders and corporations. fund for the arts Alfred Gerriets Hope Initiative Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter https://www.facebook.com/fundforthearts/posts/10153882960317258 Juvenile Diabetes Video Credit List is stored here http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/185956 Health Care and Social Assistance comprises establishments primarily engaged in providing health care by diagnosis and treatment, providing residential care for medical and social reasons, and providing social assistance, such as counselling, welfare, child protection, community housing and food services, vocational rehabilitation and child care, to those requiring such assistance.Excluded from this sector are aerobic classes in Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries and nonmedical diet and weight reducing centers in Personal and Laundry Services. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas, a large gland behind the stomach, stops making insulin because the cells that make the insulin have been destroyed by the body’s immune system. Without insulin, the body’s cells cannot turn glucose (sugar), into energy. People with type 1 diabetes depend on insulin every day of their lives to replace the insulin the body cannot produce. They must test their blood glucose levels several times throughout the day. The onset of type 1 diabetes typically occurs in people under 30 years, but can occur at any age. About 10-15% of all cases of diabetes are type 1. Without insulin the body burns its own fats as a substitute which releases chemical substances in the blood. A professional backcountry snowboarder, Sean Busby, is a diabetic person for about nine years. For all these nine years he is with JDRF and is trying to do everything he can to help T1D society. Sean says that taking care of diabetes every day is a hard work. Most people even don’t realize how it is. JDRF has a special research program which can give hope for all T1D people. The program has also led to ground breaking treatments and prevention for complications related to diabetes like blindness and kidney disease. However, the congress considers stopping to renew the program. Sean Busby invites everyone to become JDRF advocate at Washington and to make the congress hear all the voices.
