Dogs Who Serve- Diabetic Alert Dog Training by Salt Lake City Dog Trainers
Diabetic alert dog (or DAD training or DADiT) is a very cool style of training where a dog is trained to smell the odor of low and high blood sugar in a diabetic (someone who has diabetes).
This can be trained for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and can be a life saver. It’s not uncommon for dogs to be able to smell the drop or rise in blood sugar before a pump or other machine.
This Diabetic Alert Dog is being trained to indicate the sugar levels by pushing his head into and ‘bothering’ his owner when her blood sugars are too high or low.
This type of service dog and service dog training is such an aid to many.
