JDRF prioritizes its funding for type 1 diabetes research in four interrelated therapeutic areas: autoimmune therapies, β-cell therapies, prevention of complications, and glucose control. Each therapeutic area encompasses a diverse portfolio of research programs that span from exploratory to preclinical proof-of-principle and on to clinical proof-of-concept research. The organization’s overarching strategy focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges, catalyzing innovative and transformational research, advancing and translating research, creating collaborations, and accelerating time lines at all stages of research development. To facilitate downstream partnering and follow-on funding, JDRF increasingly supports product development by “de-risking” projects, thereby decreasing the barriers of entry for future funders. contributor Alfred Gerriets Juvenile diabetes contributor https://issuu.com/southcomm/docs/lnfoc_april16/60 Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter List of all video credits is specified here http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/179007 JDRF was started by volunteers committed to creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) for their children—and everyone else affected by the disease. Without their vision, it would have been impossible to grow into the organization we are today—or to devote so much time and money to funding T1D research. We celebrate the power of everyone to make a profound impact with their time and talents. That’s why we ensure our volunteers are best placed, trained, recognized and supported at every level. As a JDRF volunteer, you’ll join a tight-knit—but far-reaching—community that truly cares about finding a cure for everyone affected by this devastating disease. Your service will directly impact our ability to fund T1D research. Fort Worth was established in 1849 as an Army outpost on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. It became bustling town when it became a stop on the legendary Chisholm Trail, the trail where millions of cattle were driven north to market. Fort Worth established itself as the center of the cattle drives. Its location on the Old Chisholm Trail, made Fort Worth a cattle center and earned it the nickname “Cowtown.” Today the Fort Worth Stockyards are a major tourist attraction. Fort Worth is jam-packed with a unique blend of attractions, from cowboys to culture and from sports to shopping. Explore the world-class Cultural District, downtown’s dazzling Sundance Square, the top-ranked Fort Worth Zoo, Texas Motor Speedway, and much more. JDRF works towards a day when there is no more type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin. But, not everyone with diabetes has the same problem. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None.
