Type 1 diabetes (T1D) kills the body’s beta cells that produce insulin which gives us the energy we need for everyday life. JDRF’s vision, the Beta Cell Restoration Program, will not only stop the autoimmune attack but also return the number of beta cells to a normal level. JDRF is developing vaccines that will re-train the immune system to eliminate autoimmunity and leave the beta cells alone.
Type 1 diabetes (‪T1D‬) can occur in anyone—not just kids. If you or an adult you know has recently been diagnosed with T1D, check out the JDRF T1D Care Kit, a free resource containing information and tools to educate, support and inspire newly diagnosed adults. JDRF’s mission is to cure, treat and prevent type 1 ‪‎diabetes‬!

JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. There were 15,555 households out of which 37.10% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.30% were married couples living together, 10.00% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.20% were non-families. 20.20% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the county, the population was spread out with 27.60% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 30.30% from 25 to 44, 22.40% from 45 to 64, and 11.60% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.80 males. Excluded from this sector are aerobic classes in Subsector 713, Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries and nonmedical diet and weight reducing centers in Subsector 812, Personal and Laundry Services. Although these can be viewed as health services, these services are not typically delivered by health practitioners. Every year, in different parts of the country, JDRF organizes its special social event – JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. The Lake Tahoe hosted JDRF Ride and a great number of people participated in the event. People were excited and extremely happy. The overall spirit was high. It’s wasn’t a race, just a ride for everyone. All the riders had one common mission – to cure diabetes and to turn type one into type none. JDRF coaches help the cyclists to keep fit and healthy. Everyone, who is thoughtful, can join the ride. T1D people after their first ride began to feel better and their self-esteem rises enormously. Undoubtedly, every ride, whether in New York or in the Lake Tahoe is the same ride with the same common mission. We have some of the best ratings for an organization focused on a single disease from charity watchdog groups and media. In 2012, Forbes named JDRF one of its five “All-Star” charities, based on its evaluation of our financial efficiency.
