La Verne’s low crime rate not only provides invaluable protection for life and property, it lowers insurance rates and saves money for businesses located within the city limits. La Verne’s own police and fire departments serve “their” community with unequalled pride and dedication.
La Verne has one of the lowest crime ratings in the foothill area, reporting fewer Part I crimes (murder, rape, robbery, assault, theft) than 14 neighboring cities, with the second lowest overall crime rating among those same cities. Led by Lee Ducat, a group of local parents of children with T1D mobilized to raise money for diabetes research, and formed the first chapter of what was then known as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. A second chapter was founded shortly thereafter in Miami, Florida, followed by chapters in northern New Jersey and Washington, D.C. The fledgling organization was defined by its commitment to research funding. In addition to the high priority on funding T1D research, the organization’s founders resolved to inform the public about all aspects of T1D, advocate for more research funding from the federal government, and maintain the organization’s system of management by volunteer lay people. Since its inception, JDRF has evolved to become a worldwide leader in the fight against T1D. JDRF now has chapters and branches in most U.S. JDRF walk is a great social event. One of the board members, Aaron, shares his ideas about the walk in general. Aaron believes that the walk or JDRF membership isn’t about having something in the resume or feeling good. It’s about the staff time. All board members and participants are there because they want to be there. They all are together because they have one common mission. Every walk furthers that mission and gets them closer to the ultimate cure. The total spirit is amazingly high; they join the walk because they want to help. JDRF and the board members give people the opportunity to help. Aaron invites everyone to the walk, because together they can do something special. All JDRF members can be proud of what they have done in the past and are looking forward to what they can do in the future. The Health Care and Social Assistance industry includes establishments and services such as:
hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities and out-patient care centres; offices of health practitioners (i.e. dentists, doctors, optometrists and chiropractors); medical and diagnostic laboratories; home health care services; ambulance services; social assistance services (i.e. for children, youth, the elderly, families); community food, housing, emergency and relief services; vocational rehabilitation services; and daycare services If you live with T1D, you spend a lot of time thinking about your blood-sugar levels now and worrying about the complications that T1D may one day bring. You don’t want anyone else you love to ever know the physical, emotional and financial toll this disease takes. You want a cure. So does JDRF. And we are committed to funding the development of new therapies and treatments to keep people with T1D healthier, longer, until that cure is found. That’s why we invest in multiple therapeutic approaches to cure, prevent and treat T1D. We identify and invest in promising therapies in their early stages, helping researchers pursue innovative ideas and approaches. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D.
