Gestational diabetes during pregnancy is a temporary phase where the body goes through a number of changes. Did you know that gestational diabetes is also known as ‘Mellitis”?

Pregnant woman do not really need to worry about their blood sugar levels rising because it usually reaches normal levels during the course of time. One major cause is the fact that the placenta produces more insulin than normally required by the body, and results in hormones getting blocked.
Gestational diabetes occurs in women generally during the last semester of the pregnancy. The best way to make sure that you are not a diabetic is to get your blood sugar levels checked right after your delivery and regularly for the consecutive six months. Some basic precautions to be taken during pregnancy are:

Healthy diet plan:
It is important to follow a similar diet as a diabetic patient. Once the baby is born, the mother can go back to her normal eating habits since all the sugar parameters come back to normal levels. Food to be consumed by the patient is as follows- low fat skimmed milk, drumsticks, spinach, fenugreek etc.
Food that should be avoided is- Potatoes, beetroots, bananas, mangoes, grapes and custard apples.

Exercising:
This is another way to maintain normal sugar levels in the body. Exercising like taking small walks or yoga can help you control the glucose levels in the body.

A check on your weight:
weight management is quite a task for many mothers to be! Controlling your weight can go a long way in keeping your sugar levels well under control.
