Since its founding more than 40 years ago by parents of children affected by type 1 diabetes, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has been committed to finding a cure for all those individuals living with the disease. Today, JDRF acknowledges that this commitment will not likely be fulfilled in the near term. Although our ultimate goal—curing type 1 diabetes—remains unchanged, we are equally committed to better treating and preventing the disease. These goals aim to ensure that both children and adults living with type 1 diabetes remain healthy so that they can fully benefit from a cure when it becomes available. JDRF focuses on supporting the development and delivery of new therapies and devices that will ease the daily burden and challenges of managing type 1 diabetes and on the prevention of diabetes complications. Additionally to protect future generations from developing type 1 diabetes JDRF is supporting approaches to prevent the disease. http://www.louisvillefoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/2014-2015_UofL_Foundation_Donor_Honor_Roll-WEB.pdf jdrf kentucky aflred f. If present trends continue by 2050 as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes. Almost 30 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes. 5,800,000 people in Florida have prediabetes. Annually 5,089 youth are newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 18,436 with type 1 diabetes. Growing prevalence of diabetes in Florida was estimated at 2,350,321 people. 129,000 people in Florida are diagnosed with diabetes annually. An estimated 579,000 of Florida’s population have diabetes but don’t know it. Annually Florida spends about $24.3 billion for diabetes. According to 2012 diabetes statistics total medical costs in patients with diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes, prediabetes and gestational diabetes in Florida were estimated at $19.3 billion. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives. The Health Care and Social Assistance industry includes establishments and services such as:
hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities and out-patient care centres; offices of health practitioners (i.e. dentists, doctors, optometrists and chiropractors); medical and diagnostic laboratories; home health care services; ambulance services; social assistance services (i.e. for children, youth, the elderly, families); community food, housing, emergency and relief services; vocational rehabilitation services; and daycare services Residents of The Villages have a historically high 80% turnout rate in elections. Republicans outnumber Democrats two-to-one. Some Democratic residents complain about the distinctly Republican coverage in local broadcasting and newspaper, an orientation attributed to The Villages’ owner, as well as voicing concerns about politically oriented vandalism. A critical part of Central Florida’s Republican party, The Villages has been visited frequently along the campaign trail by Florida Governor Rick Scott and United States Senator Marco Rubio. During the 2014 Florida gubernatorial election, Scott visited The Villages on the eve of the election to rally votes.
