Alright, hey what’s up guys! I’m Charlie O’Connell and I’m the founder of Glucose Zone. Today I want to talk to you about something very important it’s actually the whole reason why we are here. It’s what is diabetes?
You know we’ve had thousands of people come through our center now. I’ve had meetings with people who have had diabetes for over 40 years. Have been living with diabetes for over 40 years and when I ask them the simple question “what is diabetes,” they actually don’t know the answer.
We’re going to talk about diabetes in a different way than you’ve ever talked or heard about it before. I want to start at the very very beginning. What is diabetes? Well, the first thing is there are five kinds of diabetes. There’s type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, pre diabetes, gestational diabetes, and something called type one and a half diabetes which is also known as latent onset adult diabetes.
All five kinds of diabetes have very different causes. The cause of Type 1 diabetes is actually the exact opposite cause of type 2 diabetes. And gestational diabetes has nothing to do with either one of those. But all five kinds of diabetes end result in the same thing. That is why they are all called diabetes.
What is that one thing that they end result in? The on thing is elevated blood sugar levels. Diabetes is a disease of elevated blood sugar levels, period stop.
The reason why I say it like that is because diabetes is a really management intensive disease and sometimes we can get distracted by the management of diabetes and lose sight of what is diabetes.
