Hope Warshaw Interviews Martha Funnell at the 2010 AADE
Martha (Marti) Funnell, MS, RN, CDE, by day is a Research Investigator at the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center in Ann Arbor. Marti also has many hats as a volunteer. She has recently taken the position as Chair of the National Diabetes Education Program of the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Marti presented an AADE program and discussed with us NDEP’s recent project to develop criteria for and a database of materials to the essential behavior change necessary for good diabetes care. Marti also shared her pleasure at seeing the patient-centered model, which she has advocated for over many years, pervasively discussed at this year’s AADE meeting.
