[How To]-Nonprofit Foundation-Cincinnati-Prevent Diabetes

JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is now the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF research is to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners who share this goal.
JDRF aims to find new ways to treat type 1 diabetes and its complications, prevent type 1 from developing and find the cure for people who already have the condition. Cincinnati (nickname: the Queen City) is located in southwestern Ohio on a hilly landscape along the Ohio River, at the Ohio-Kentucky border opposite Covington and Newport, Kentucky.
Cincinnati was founded in 1788, it has been the first American boomtown in the heart of the country in the early nineteenth century to rival the larger coastal cities in size and wealth, but it suffered from economic restructuring and loss of jobs following deindustrialization in the mid-20 century. Cincinnati’s main attractions:Downtown Cincinnati (the city’s central business district), Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal (passenger railroad station and museum, home to Cincinnati History Museum, the Museum of Natural History & Science, Omnimax Theater movie house, the Cincinnati Historical Society, Library Duke Energy Children’s Museum, and The Cincinnati Railroad Club), Cincinnati Observatory (oldest professional observatory in the United States), Great American Tower at Queen City Square (headquarters of the Great American Insurance Company), Fountain Square (city square lined with shops, restaurants, hotels, and offices), Aronoff Center (performing arts venue), Cincinnati Music Hall (classical music performance), Duke Energy Convention Center (convention center). The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance and finally finishing with only social assistance. The services provided in this sector are delivered by trained health practitioners and social workers with requisite experience. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) kills the body’s beta cells that produce insulin which gives us the energy we need for everyday life. JDRF’s vision, the Beta Cell Restoration Program, will not only stop the autoimmune attack but also return the number of beta cells to a normal level. JDRF is developing vaccines that will re-train the immune system to eliminate autoimmunity and leave the beta cells alone. Type 1 diabetes (‪T1D‬) can occur in anyone—not just kids. If you or an adult you know has recently been diagnosed with T1D, check out the JDRF T1D Care Kit, a free resource containing information and tools to educate, support and inspire newly diagnosed adults. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day.
