For now, doctors don’t know the exact reason that lead to T1D, but they do know that your genes play a role. They also know that Type 1 Diabetes can result when something in the environment, like a virus, tells your immune system to go after your pancreas. Most of people with T1D have signs of this attack, called autoantibodies. They are presented in almost everyone who has the condition when their blood sugar is high.
Type 1 diabetes can happen along with other autoimmune diseases, like Grave’s disease or vitiligo.
The symptoms are often subtle, but can become severe. They can be:
– Heavy thirst
– Increased hunger
– Nausea and vomiting
– Dry mouth
– Pain in your belly
– Frequent urination
– Unexplained weight loss (even though you’re eating and feel hungry)
– Fatigue (weak, tired feeling)
– Blurred vision
– Heavy, labored breathing (your doctor will call this Kussmaul respiration)
– Frequent infections of the skin, urinary tract, or vagina. Mayor Walsh has also made upgrading South Boston’s infrastructure a priority. An unprecedented number of streets have been repaved, a dilapidated traffic island was replaced, Medal of Honor Park is getting a multi-million dollar renovation, and additional parks will be renovated. JDRF has a special committee for young T1D people around the country. YLC is a young leadership organization for diabetics aged 21 to 40. Carling Nolan, LPGA golfer and JDRF Young Leadership Committee national celebrity advocate joined the committee after college. She says that YLC helps her to keep in touch with people of the same problems as she has – with T1D young people. YLC organizes wonderful parties and amazing fundraising events and Nolan says that almost every city around the country has such committee. Everyone can contact JDRF chapter and check his locality for YLC. Diabetes is the name given to disorders in which the body has trouble regulating its blood glucose or blood sugar levels. There are two major types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which a person’s body still produces insulin but is unable to use it effectively. JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None.
