Roughly 29 million people (or 9% of the population) in the United States has diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Diabetes is caused mainly by insulin-resistance, so the key to protecting yourself against the disease is to lower insulin-like growth factors. When you eat high-glycemic foods, like candy, doughnuts, cake, cookies, white rice, regular pasta, and white bread, your pancreas has to make a lot of insulin and you feel hungry all the time. But there are lots of foods that you can eat that lower the amount of insulin that you need. In this video (and in my upcoming book, The Gene Therapy Plan: Taking Control of Your Genetic Destiny With Diet and Lifestyle, which is being released by Viking on 4/21/15), I discuss the power of chicory, cinnamon, coconut oil, coconut water, radishes, probiotics, brown rice, buckwheat soba noodles, rosemary, and more. I give cooking advice, too. Enjoy!
