JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. Video Credits Column http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/153153 Diabetes is the epidemic of the 21st century and the biggest challenge with which is confronting the health system of the United States. If present trends continue by 2050 as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes. 10,721,000 people in California have prediabetes. Annually 5,089 youth are newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 18,436 with type 1 diabetes. Growing prevalence of diabetes in California was estimated at 3,845,278 people. 209,000 people in California are diagnosed with diabetes annually. An estimated 1,021,000 of California’s population have diabetes but don’t know it. Annually California spends about $37.1 billion for diabetes. According to 2012 diabetes statistics total medical costs in patients with diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes, prediabetes and gestational diabetes in California were estimated at $27.6 billion. Since its founding more than 40 years ago by parents of children affected by type 1 diabetes, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has been committed to finding a cure for all those individuals living with the disease. Today, JDRF acknowledges that this commitment will not likely be fulfilled in the near term. Although our ultimate goal—curing type 1 diabetes—remains unchanged, we are equally committed to better treating and preventing the disease. These goals aim to ensure that both children and adults living with type 1 diabetes remain healthy so that they can fully benefit from a cure when it becomes available. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector comprises establishments providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The industries in this sector include physician’s offices, hospitals, medical laboratories, nursing homes, and youth and family service centers. South Gate offers nine city parks for the enjoyment of its citizens. – South Gate Park covers a total of 96.8 acres (392,000 m2), and is the largest park within the city limits. This park is used to carry out most of the Parks and Recreation Department’s community programs. There are a total of six different facilities at this park, some of which can be rented out for a variety of events. These facilities include the Municipal Auditorium, Girls Club House, 9 hole Par 3 Golf Course, Senior Recreation Center, Swim Stadium, and Sports Center. The site also features athletic fields, outdoor basketball courts, two playgrounds, tennis courts, a skate park, several shaded areas for picnics, and a Jr. Hockey Rink. Type 1 diabetes in children used to be known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Alternative Names of T1D: Insulin-dependent diabetes; Juvenile onset diabetes; Diabetes – type 1. Type 1 Diabetes – In type 1 diabetes, your immune system mistakenly destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. Your body treats these cells as invaders and destroys them. This can happen over a few weeks, months, or years. When enough beta cells are destroyed, your pancreas stops making insulin, or makes too little insulin. Because the pancreas does not make insulin, insulin needs to be replaced. Insulin does not come in a pill.
