Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, called beta cells. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle.
In current video you will find out about USA diabetes statistics, and some of them are:
– 1.25M Americans are living with T1D including about 200,000 youth (less than 20 years old) and over a million adults (20 years old and older)
– $14B T1D-associated annual healthcare costs in the U.S
– T1D is associated with an estimated loss of life-expectancy of up to 13 years

Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! Since its founding more than 40 years ago by parents of children affected by type 1 diabetes, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has been committed to finding a cure for all those individuals living with the disease. Today, JDRF acknowledges that this commitment will not likely be fulfilled in the near term. Although our ultimate goal—curing type 1 diabetes—remains unchanged, we are equally committed to better treating and preventing the disease. These goals aim to ensure that both children and adults living with type 1 diabetes remain healthy so that they can fully benefit from a cure when it becomes available. The Whitehead Memorial Museum was established in 1962 and remains the only full time, public museum in Val Verde County, Texas. The mission of the Whitehead Memorial Museum is to preserve historical and tangible artifacts that reflect the early history, cultures, and economics of Del Rio and Val Verde County. The Whitehead Memorial Museum came to life more than 50 years ago. In 1962, a noted local ranching family, the Whiteheads, purchased the old Perry Mercantile Building and donated it to the City of Del Rio and Val Verde County for a museum. Since that time, the museum has grown to include 21 exhibit sites and occupies more than two acres of land. If you live with T1D, you spend a lot of time thinking about your blood-sugar levels now and worrying about the complications that T1D may one day bring. You don’t want anyone else you love to ever know the physical, emotional and financial toll this disease takes. You want a cure. So does JDRF. And we are committed to funding the development of new therapies and treatments to keep people with T1D healthier, longer, until that cure is found. That’s why we invest in multiple therapeutic approaches to cure, prevent and treat T1D. We identify and invest in promising therapies in their early stages, helping researchers pursue innovative ideas and approaches. Excluded from this sector are aerobic classes in Subsector 713, Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries and nonmedical diet and weight reducing centers in Subsector 812, Personal and Laundry Services. Although these can be viewed as health services, these services are not typically delivered by health practitioners.
