Ingrown Toenail Treatment – Podiatrist in Katy, TX – James Jacobs, DPM – Ingrown Nail
Podiatrist Dr. James M. Jacobs of Your Total Foot Care Specialist discusses the symptoms, causes and treatments for Ingrown Toenails.
• Do not wear shoes that are tight
• Wear shoes with plenty of toe room
• Trim then straight across, not longer than the tip of the toes
• Do not round off corners
• Use toenail clippers
Avoid, at all costs, other “do-it-yourself” treatments, including trying to remove any part of an infected nail or the use of over-the-counter medications. Nail problems should be evaluated and treated by our doctors, who can appropriately treat this painful condition.
People with diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or other circulatory disorders must avoid any form of self treatment and seek podiatric medical care as soon as possible.
Our doctors can remove the ingrown portion of the nail and may prescribe a topical or oral medication to treat the infection. This is done in the office and one can return to normal activities the same day.
