It's All About-Research Funding-Hialeah-Researching Type 1 Diabetes
The Health Care and Social Assistance industry includes establishments and services such as:
hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities and out-patient care centres; offices of health practitioners (i.e. dentists, doctors, optometrists and chiropractors); medical and diagnostic laboratories; home health care services; ambulance services; social assistance services (i.e. for children, youth, the elderly, families); community food, housing, emergency and relief services; vocational rehabilitation services; and daycare services JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Millions of people around the world live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), a life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults. There is no way to prevent it, and at present, no cure. JDRF works every day to change this by amassing grassroots support, deep scientific knowledge and strong industry and academic partnerships to fund research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until they achieve a world without T1D.
JDRF is a major charitable 501 organization dedicated to funding type 1 diabetes research. JDRF’s stated vision is “a world without type 1 diabetes.” While insulin injections or infusion allow a person with T1D to stay alive, they do not cure the disease, nor do they necessarily prevent the possibility of the disease’s serious effects, which may include: kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage, amputations, heart attack, stroke, and pregnancy complications. Although type 1 diabetes is a serious and difficult disease, treatment options are improving all the time, and people with T1D can lead full and active lives. JDRF is driving research to improve the technology people with T1D use to monitor blood sugar levels and deliver the proper doses of insulin, as well as research that will ultimately deliver a cure. Diagnosing Diabetes:
– A1C Test – measures your average blood glucose for the past 2 to 3 months. If the score is equal to or greater than 6.5%, diabetes is present. The primary advantage of being diagnosed using this test is that there is no requirement to fast or drink anything. A score of less than 5.7% would be normal and no presence of diabetes. A score between 5.7% and 6.4% is a prediabetes indication. Hialeah, city (1990 pop. 188,004), Dade co., SE Fla., NW of Miami; inc. 1925. Its industries include printing and the making of metal and plastic goods. Nearby Miami International Airport is a major employer. The city’s population has grown substantially since the 1970s, and a vibrant Cuban community has added to its economic development. Hialeah Park racetrack, now closed, is in the city.
Hialeah’s mall, Westland Mall, is located on the west side of the city along Palmetto Expressway (FL 826) at the intersection of 49th Street (FL 932). It opened in the summer of 1971, expanding upon an already-extant Burdine’s store, adding JCPenney as a middle anchor, and Sears on the other end with an enclosed mall of stores connecting them. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day.
