Type 1 diabetes (T1D) kills the body’s beta cells that produce insulin which gives us the energy we need for everyday life. JDRF’s vision, the Beta Cell Restoration Program, will not only stop the autoimmune attack but also return the number of beta cells to a normal level. JDRF is developing vaccines that will re-train the immune system to eliminate autoimmunity and leave the beta cells alone.
Type 1 diabetes (‪T1D‬) can occur in anyone—not just kids. If you or an adult you know has recently been diagnosed with T1D, check out the JDRF T1D Care Kit, a free resource containing information and tools to educate, support and inspire newly diagnosed adults. JDRF’s mission is to cure, treat and prevent type 1 ‪‎diabetes‬!

At the time, it was part of Dover Township. In the early 1910s, the northern part of the township seceded to form Bay Village. In 1912, a southern portion left to join North Olmsted. The remaining township residents formed Dover Village in 1913, taking with it a portion of Olmsted Township. Dover Village was renamed Westlake in 1940. This was done to eliminate confusion with Dover, Ohio. The village of Westlake became a city in 1957. The Westlake Historical Society was formed to inform and educate others about the history of Dover/ Westlake. In September 1966, a house in Westlake which had recently been bought by John R. Compton, a black pastor, was firebombed. No one was injured, although the bombing did cause around $10,000 of damage. According to the Cleveland Press, the mayor of Westlake, Alexander R. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! Health Care and Social Assistance comprises establishments primarily engaged in providing health care by diagnosis and treatment, providing residential care for medical and social reasons, and providing social assistance, such as counselling, welfare, child protection, community housing and food services, vocational rehabilitation and child care, to those requiring such assistance. Ray Allen, an NBA- All Stars player gave up his career to join JDRF and save his son’s life. Walker is now seven years-old and he dreams about being like his father – a basketball player of NBA. However, it can become real only if the ultimate cure will appear. Families’ life of a T1D kid changes forever when the child is diagnosed. Kid’s parents check his blood sugar level constantly and give insulin injections to keep the kid alive. Walker is a small boy but he already understands the whole seriousness of his disease – what he wants the most is the cure. Walker knows that JDRF can help to find the cure for T1D, but everyone’s help is crucial for it. Walker has hope for healthy future without T1D. JDRF prioritizes its funding for type 1 diabetes research in four interrelated therapeutic areas: autoimmune therapies, β-cell therapies, prevention of complications, and glucose control. Each therapeutic area encompasses a diverse portfolio of research programs that span from exploratory to preclinical proof-of-principle and on to clinical proof-of-concept research. The organization’s overarching strategy focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges, catalyzing innovative and transformational research, advancing and translating research, creating collaborations, and accelerating time lines at all stages of research development.
