Health Care & Social Assistance sector comprises firms providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance and finally finishing with only social assistance. The services provided in this sector are delivered by trained health practitioners and social workers with requisite experience. Nicknamed “Music City USA,” Nashville is best known as the home of the country music industry. Countless aspiring singers, writers, and musicians head to Nashville looking for fame and fortune. But Nashville was a center for fortune seekers long before the traditional songs of Southern and Appalachian musicians began to be pressed onto shellac and vinyl. Beginning in the mid-19th century, growing numbers of Jews from Europe came to Tennessee’s capital city in search of a better life. There they found opportunity and established a community that continues to thrive today. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Millions of people around the world live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), a life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults. There is no way to prevent it, and at present, no cure. JDRF works every day to change this by amassing grassroots support, deep scientific knowledge and strong industry and academic partnerships to fund research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until they achieve a world without T1D.
JDRF is a major charitable 501 organization dedicated to funding type 1 diabetes research. JDRF’s stated vision is “a world without type 1 diabetes.” Type 1 Diabetes can occur at any age, but most commonly is diagnosed from infancy to the late 30s. Type 1 diabetes happens when your immune system destroys cells in your pancreas called beta cells. They’re the ones that make insulin. What Treatments are Used for Type 1 Diabetes?
The two goals of diabetes treatment are to make sure you feel well day-to-day and to prevent or delay long-term health problems. The best way to reach those goals is by:
– taking insulin
– planning your meals—choosing what, how much, and when to eat
– being physically active
You want a cure. So does JDRF. And we are committed to funding the development of new therapies and treatments to keep people with T1D healthier, longer, until that cure is found. That’s why we invest in multiple therapeutic approaches to cure, prevent and treat T1D. We identify and invest in promising therapies in their early stages, helping researchers pursue innovative ideas and approaches. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day.
