Originally part of Potawatomi Native American landscape, the Lombard area was first settled by Americans of European descent in the 1830s. Lombard shares its early history with Glen Ellyn. Brothers Ralph and Morgan Babcock settled in a grove of trees along the DuPage River. In what was known as Babcock’s Grove, Lombard developed to the east and Glen Ellyn to the west. In 1837, Babcock’s Grove was connected to Chicago by a stagecoach line which stopped at Stacy’s Tavern at Geneva and St. Charles Roads. Fertile land, the DuPage River, and plentiful timber drew farmers to the area. JDRF ride is to cure diabetes and hundreds of people join this event and have one single goal – to find the ultimate cure. The city of Nashville is one of the cities which hosts the ride. The riders share their emotions about this event. Everyone can participate and it’s very exciting. The ride starts early in the morning, when it’s still dark outside. The national anthem is an inherent part of the event. All the people sing the anthem in one voice. The riders train a lot and people fundraise. Rider’s families come to encourage them and to cheer. JDRF ride participants are always excited about the ride and the overall spirit is high. The ride is especially important for the T1D people, because they can do it together with the others and keep healthy and feet. Everyone should join JDRF Ride to create a world without T1D.
