You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! Media Credits list http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/127267 In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.
Type 1 diabetes signs and symptoms can come on quickly and may include:
Bed wetting in children who previously didn’t wet the bed during the night;
Extreme hunger;Unintended weight loss;
Irritability and other mood changes;
Fatigue and weakness;
In females, a vaginal yeast infection. Today millions of people in the US are suffering from T1D. Annual spending of Health Care on diabetes treatment is $15 billion. The situation does not improve. On the contrary, the number of kids with T1D grows. If somebody from your family suffers from diabetes you are also predisposed to this horrible disease. Probably those who encountered this disease thought whether one day a cure or a vaccine from diabetes would appear. JDRF is working to transform a wish of millions of people into reality. Their goal is not only to find a cure, but also to make a vaccine that would prevent the future generations from this disease. There is a lot of work to do and JDRF needs your help and support. JDRF was founded in the New York area. Led by Lee Ducat, a group of local parents of children with T1D mobilized to raise money for diabetes research, and formed the first chapter of what was then known as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. A second chapter was founded shortly thereafter in Miami, Florida, followed by chapters in northern New Jersey and Washington, D.C. The fledgling organization was defined by its commitment to research funding. In addition to the high priority on funding T1D research, the organization’s founders resolved to inform the public about all aspects of T1D, advocate for more research funding from the federal government, and maintain the organization’s system of management by volunteer lay people.
