You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. While there are places named for Pike in many other states, Pikesville, Maryland, is the only place named “Pikesville” (compare Pikeville, Kentucky). As the global leader in the fight against T1D JDRF’s research programs are comprehensive — addressing the hopes and dreams of every person with T1D for the best quality of life and a cure for this disease.

Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is working to reverse the US diabetes epidemic by tracking disease trends, focusing on prevention, identifying effective treatments, and improving medical care. CDC works with partners—state health departments, other federal agencies, medical providers, and community organizations — to identify people with prediabetes, prevent type 2 diabetes and its complications, and improve the health of all people with diabetes. The agency focuses on populations that are most affected to make sure they receive the best education and treatment.
