The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. In 2011, at Washington, the November 22nd, BMO Financial Group received the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) National Sponsors Award for overall corporate and company-wide support of The Walk to Cure Diabetes. The NYSE Closing Bell with all the delegates of the Children’s congress was a wonderful part. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. JDRF works towards a day when there is no more type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin. But, not everyone with diabetes has the same problem. Winter Park is a lovely city. It offers opportunities for numerous activities that would entertain people with varied tastes. One can visit museums or any of the beautiful parks which have facilities for various outdoor fun activities. Some great festivals, like the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, are also held in this area. An exotic car show is held every October at Central Park.
