Caitlin Ryan, an 11-year-old T1D girl is addressing to the FDA asking for the Artificial Pancreas. The main aim of Children’s congress at Washington in 2013 was to advance the development of Artificial Pancreas. Senator Collins also stands for the fast development of the Artificial Pancreas, which is crucially needed to every T1D person. Artificial Pancreas can dramatically improve the quality of life for individuals living with diabetes. FDA has played a pivotal role in moving research forward by approving clinical trials in hospital settings. The Americans need this innovation now. Senator Shaheen told that by combining the existing components, such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors the Artificial Pancreas can control blood sugar levels automatically. And this would change the lives of people, who are living with T1D. It’s the time to get this device in hands of all diabetics. The Artificial Pancreas will be the most revolutionary advance in treating T1D. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. Lake County, 32 miles north of the Loop. Incorporated as a village in 1895, North Chicago was called South Waukegan until 1901. Proximity to Lake Michigan and to Chicago made the area ideal for manufacturing. The fact that it was a temperance town withthe motto “No Saloons ”was also a key selling point. However, workers grewimpatient with the restrictions of temperance and demanded a change. By 1912 North Chicago possessed, in addition to its 15 industrial enterprises, no fewer than 26 saloons, all of which generated city revenue in the form of license fees. Changes in North Chicago’s racial makeup accompanied its decline in population. We are JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We won’t stop until we create a world without T1D (type one diabetes). We are committed to eradicating type 1 diabetes and its effects for everyone with type 1, and at risk of developing it. T1D treatment options are improving all the time. We are driving research to improve the technology people with T1D use to monitor blood sugar levels and research that will ultimately deliver a cure. Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar (glucose) level to become too high. The hormone insulin – is responsible for controlling the amount of glucose in the blood. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. To accomplish this, JDRF has invested nearly $2 billion in research funding since our inception. We are an organization built on a grassroots model of people connecting in their local communities, collaborating regionally for efficiency and broader fundraising impact, and uniting on a national stage to pool resources, passion and energy.
