You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! Video Credits Column http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/193230 The Health Care and Social Assistance industry includes establishments and services such as: hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities and out-patient care centres; offices of health practitioners (i.e. dentists, doctors, optometrists and chiropractors); medical and diagnostic laboratories; home health care services; ambulance services; social assistance services (i.e. for children, youth, the elderly, families); community food, housing, emergency and relief services; vocational rehabilitation services; and daycare services. JDRF is the only organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D. Our strategies include: Artificial Pancreas Systems Artificial pancreas systems will eliminate blood glucose testing and carb counting by totally automating insulin dosing, initially preventing dangerous low blood sugars and eventually ensuring ideal glucose control. Complications JDRF’s complications research is leading to therapies to treat and even reverse some of the debilitating, costly, and life-threatening complications caused by T1D. Type 1 diabetes in children used to be known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Alternative Names of T1D: Insulin-dependent diabetes; Juvenile onset diabetes; Diabetes – type 1. Type 1 Diabetes – In type 1 diabetes, your immune system mistakenly destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. Your body treats these cells as invaders and destroys them. This can happen over a few weeks, months, or years. When enough beta cells are destroyed, your pancreas stops making insulin, or makes too little insulin. Because the pancreas does not make insulin, insulin needs to be replaced. Insulin does not come in a pill. Gloucester was first established as a settlement in 1623, three years after the pilgrims landed in Plymouth. The town of Gloucester was incorporated in 1642; it then included Sandy Bay, now the town of Rockport. Gloucester was named after Gloucester England, whence many of the settlers of that year came.
The origins of the Gloucester Fire Department began with the fire societies, men who banded themselves together for mutual protection. As early as 1789, when Cape Ann had a population of about 5,000, there was a Masonic Fire Society. The main purpose of these clubs was to fight fires, but they also had rules, orders and watchwords and met as a social group. If present trends continue by 2050 as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes. Almost 30 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes. Only 11.1% of Americans with prediabetes have been told they have it. 1,784,000 people in Massachusetts have prediabetes. Annually 5,089 youth are newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 18,436 with type 1 diabetes. Growing prevalence of diabetes in Massachusetts was estimated at 596,798 people. 25,000 people in Massachusetts are diagnosed with diabetes annually. An estimated 162,000 of Massachusetts’s population have diabetes but don’t know it. Annually Massachusetts spends about 8.1 billion for diabetes.
