Malnutrition: A Hidden Epidemic in Older Adults

Malnutrition can happen to anyone, but older adults are particularly at risk. Malnutrition does not just happen to seniors who suffer from hunger, or who do not have access to healthy food. Older adults are more likely to have chronic conditions that put them at risk for malnutrition. Cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and other conditions can impact appetite, make eating difficult, change metabolism, and require dietary restrictions. This short “pocket film” covers who is at risk for malnutrition, the debilitating impact it can have on older adults, tips for identifying the condition, and how it can be treated and prevented. The film is also available in Spanish. Learn more at http://www.agingresearch.org/NutritionFilms
