Children’s Congress at Washington was attended by many famous people. Nicole Johnson loves to be at JDRF children’s congress and to feel that she is the part of a great thing. The most inspirational thing is that all the participants came across the country to take part in an important social event – in a fight against T1D. People with diabetes joined the congress to say in one voice their mutual message to the congressmen and senators. Diabetes need to get better treatment – more funding, more flexibility in some of the regulations. All this is important to get the products to the market to make T1D people’s lives better. JDRF Children’s Congress is fantastic and T1D children are the best voices. Also, some T1D grown-ups shared their life experiences with the little ones and proved them that it is possible to live a normal life with T1D. The full set of credits is listed here http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/174541 JDRF works every day to change the reality of this disease for millions of people—and to prevent anyone else from ever knowing it—by funding research, advocating for government support of research and new therapies, ensuring new therapies come to market and connecting and engaging the T1D community.
http://www.purepathcapitalgroup.com/Leadership.html JDRF Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter www.alfredgerriets.com Alfred Gerriets JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. So a few years ago, we changed our name to JDRF: Juvenile Diabetes Reseach Foundation. Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune condition in which the immune system is activated to destroy the cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. We do not know what causes this auto-immune reaction. Type 1 diabetes is not linked to modifiable lifestyle factors. There is no cure and it cannot be prevented.
Type 1 diabetes:
– Occurs when the pancreas does not produce insulin
– Represents around 10% of all cases of diabetes and is one of the most common chronic childhood conditions
– Onset is usually abrupt and the symptoms obvious
– Symptoms can include excessive thirst and urination, unexplained weight loss, weakness and fatigue and blurred vision
– Is managed with insulin injections several times a day or the use of an insulin pump.
