Without insulin, the body’s cells cannot turn glucose (sugar), into energy. People with type 1 diabetes depend on insulin every day of their lives to replace the insulin the body cannot produce. They must test their blood glucose levels several times throughout the day. The onset of type 1 diabetes typically occurs in people under 30 years, but can occur at any age. About 10-15% of all cases of diabetes are type 1. Without insulin the body burns its own fats as a substitute which releases chemical substances in the blood. The Lenni-Lenape Indians were the original inhabitants. The Quakers from England established Colestown in the late 1600’s. The name Cherry Hill was given to the township in 1961 by the citizens by a non-binding referendum. The name was taken from Abraham Browning’s former farm named Cherry Hill. During the late 1800’s the township was a thriving agricultural community which included flourishing gristmills and carriage producing businesses. The farms in Cherry Hill grew a large amount of produce for the Campbell’s Soup Company. Cherry Hill’s agricultural production contributed to the nick-name “The Garden State” for New Jersey. JDRF was founded in the New York area. Led by Lee Ducat, a group of local parents of children with T1D mobilized to raise money for diabetes research, and formed the first chapter of what was then known as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. A second chapter was founded shortly thereafter in Miami, Florida, followed by chapters in northern New Jersey and Washington, D.C. The fledgling organization was defined by its commitment to research funding. In addition to the high priority on funding T1D research, the organization’s founders resolved to inform the public about all aspects of T1D, advocate for more research funding from the federal government, and maintain the organization’s system of management by volunteer lay people. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! Grace is an incredible girl, her personality and just simple excitement for life, enthusiasm for everything. She is perfect in every other way of life. Despite T1D, Aaron won’t trade anything in their present life. Grace’s family supports her every minute in her difficult disease. Aaron is a board member of JDRF walk and their main aim is to cure and the ultimate mission is to find the cure and to free every man, woman or child from T1D. However, in meantime they need to come up with new and improved technologies. Artificial Pancreas and encapsulation are being developing in the meantime. The quality of life has been greatly improved thanks to JDRF research team.
