You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! Here is a full list of video credits http://broadcaster.beazil.net/public/credits/youtube/videos/192165 Insulin therapy is an important part of diabetes treatment. All people who have t1D and some people who have T1D need to take insulin to stabilize their blood sugar level. People diagnosed with T1D usually start with 2 injections of insulin per day of 2 different types of insulin and generally progress to 3 or 4 injections per day of insulin of different types. Most people with T2D may need 1 injection per day with or without any diabetes pills. If diabetes pills stop working, people with T2D will start with 2 injections per day of 2 different types of insulin. Living with diabetes can be very demanding and some patients lose motivation over time. Healthcare providers can provide tips and encouragement to help patients stay on track. JDRF is the only organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D. Our strategies include: Artificial Pancreas Systems Artificial pancreas systems will eliminate blood glucose testing and carb counting by totally automating insulin dosing, initially preventing dangerous low blood sugars and eventually ensuring ideal glucose control. Complications JDRF’s complications research is leading to therapies to treat and even reverse some of the debilitating, costly, and life-threatening complications caused by T1D. Encapsulation JDRF’s encapsulation research will restore insulin independence for 18 months to two years
by implanting newly created beta cells into a protective capsule, which eliminates the need for toxic immune suppression therapies. The Health Care and Social Assistance industry includes establishments and services such as: hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities and out-patient care centres; offices of health practitioners (i.e. dentists, doctors, optometrists and chiropractors); medical and diagnostic laboratories; home health care services; ambulance services; social assistance services (i.e. for children, youth, the elderly, families); community food, housing, emergency and relief services; vocational rehabilitation services; and daycare services. Jamaica derives its name from the Jameco tribe of Indians whose main village was at the southern end of Baisley’s Pond, or Nassau Lake as it is now called. A charter for the town was granted to fifteen English families in 1650 by Governor Peter Stuyvesant acting for the States General of Holland and the Dutch West India Company. The town grew rapidly, many people coming from the Eastern end of Long island, Connecticut, and what is now Kings County. Jamaica village, or Rustdorp, as the Hollanders called it, was the center of a thriving agricultural community; New York was considered as being far away in those days. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas, a large gland behind the stomach, stops making insulin because the cells that make the insulin have been destroyed by the body’s immune system. Without insulin, the body’s cells cannot turn glucose (sugar), into energy. People with type 1 diabetes depend on insulin every day of their lives to replace the insulin the body cannot produce. They must test their blood glucose levels several times throughout the day. The onset of type 1 diabetes typically occurs in people under 30 years, but can occur at any age. About 10-15% of all cases of diabetes are type 1. Without insulin the body burns its own fats as a substitute which releases chemical substances in the blood.
