He talks with JDRF about why everyone should join the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes team. In 2014 it was his first JDRF Ride and since then he is an integral member of JDRF team. His Gran Fondo takes place every October 22 in Carolina and everyone can participate and help to cure T1D. Hincapie’s Ride isn’t a race, it’s a ride for cure. The scenery during the ride are awesome and worth seeing. The Skyuka mountain is the most wonderful part of the road and George’s favorite scenery. As the ride takes place in Autumn, the colors are amazing including nice rest-stops. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! JDRF works towards a day when there is no more type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin.
