You don’t want anyone else you love to ever know the physical, emotional and financial toll this disease takes. You want a cure. So does JDRF. And we are committed to funding the development of new therapies and treatments to keep people with T1D healthier, longer, until that cure is found. That’s why we invest in multiple therapeutic approaches to cure, prevent and treat T1D. We identify and invest in promising therapies in their early stages, helping researchers pursue innovative ideas and approaches. JDRF’s research goal is to discover, develop, and deliver advances that progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we find a cure. JDRF is driving research across the entire scientific spectrum, from discovery in the laboratory to delivery of new technologies and treatments to people with T1D. The full impact of JDRF’s research investment extends well beyond our direct funding. Now more than ever, we see the value in leveraging partnerships with academia, industry and clinicians to ensure that the most promising research opportunities are funded and accelerated. Many American cities host not only JDRF Walk, but also a JDRF Ride. Burlington is a perfect example of a ride to cure diabetes. Many people participate in the ride in order to turn type one into type none. People are extremely happy about the event. The preparations are extremely important for each rider. All the participants start at the line and do their own ride – it’s not a race, but a RIDE to cure diabetes. During the ride many people cheer and support the riders. After the ride there is always a special after party, where all the people celebrate their achievements. People are extremely happy and sure that the ultimate cure will be found. The team is amazing and the coaches support the riders. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. Pennsauken Township was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 18, 1892, from portions of the now-defunct Stockton Township. The exact origin of the name Pennsauken is unclear, but it probably derives from the language of the Lenni Lenape people (a Native American group which once occupied the area) from “Pindasenauken”, the Lenape language term for “tobacco pouch”. Alternatively, the “Penn” in the township’s name refers to William Penn, while “sauk” is a water inlet or outlet. Pennsauken was home to America’s first drive-in movie theater, created in 1933 with the opening of the Camden Drive-In in Pennsauken.
