November is Diabetes Awareness month!

Greetings from Gentle Touch Foot Care!

Taking care of your feet are essential to diabetics because of the direct effect diabetes has on the feet for three important reasons:

1.) Peripheral Neuropathy: Diabetes can cause peripheral neuropathy which is damage to the nerves causing a painful tingling or numbing sensation.

2.) Decreased Circulation: Diabetes can lead to poor circulation, which slows the healing process when damage occurs, such as ulcerations.

3.) Increased infection: Diabetics are at an increased risk for ulcerations and are slower to resolve infections due to poor circulation and sensation.

A podiatrist is the only person that is trained in a specialized field in medicine for anything concerning the lower extremity, foot and ankle, that’s why it is important for you to visit your podiatrist if there are any problems concerning your feet. In the case of diabetic foot risk assessment detection, early detection and prevention is always better than complications and eventual amputation. If there you have any other questions feel free to contact Dr. Theall’s and Dr. Saleh’s Gentle Touch Foot Care office for all your foot and ankle needs and concerns at 973 673 – 3668.
