Type 1 diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease.
In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.
18.2 million people in the United States (6.3 percent of the population) have been diagnosed with diabetes. 5 to 10 percent of all people with diabetes have Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance and finally finishing with only social assistance. The services provided in this sector are delivered by trained health practitioners and social workers with requisite experience. J.A. Carr Park is home to a half-mile crushed limestone walking and jogging trail. Nestled among shade trees, you will find a playground, a sand volleyball court, and picnic areas. The Simmons Center is located at this park and provides a rentable space for parties or other gatherings. Adjacent to the Simmons Center is a garden area with a gazebo that can also be rented for your activities. This park got it’s name from Joseph Allen Carr. His son, Cecil Carr, donated a portion of the land that now makes up the park. In 1976, the Park Board with the later approval of the City Council, decided to name parks in honor of those who donated the land for them. J.A. Carr Park was dedicated on July 11, 1976. This small 4 acre park features picnic tables and an outdoor basketball court. This park is also home to the city’s tree growing and horticultural facility. JDRF prioritizes its funding for type 1 diabetes research in four interrelated therapeutic areas: autoimmune therapies, β-cell therapies, prevention of complications, and glucose control. Each therapeutic area encompasses a diverse portfolio of research programs that span from exploratory to preclinical proof-of-principle and on to clinical proof-of-concept research. The organization’s overarching strategy focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges, catalyzing innovative and transformational research, advancing and translating research, creating collaborations, and accelerating time lines at all stages of research development. To facilitate downstream partnering and follow-on funding, JDRF increasingly supports product development by “de-risking” projects, thereby decreasing the barriers of entry for future funders. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. Millions of people around the world live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), a life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults. There is no way to prevent it, and at present, no cure. JDRF works every day to change this by amassing grassroots support, deep scientific knowledge and strong industry and academic partnerships to fund research.
