One of the biggest causes of diabetes is not sugar and carbs like people think (although those do aggravate the problem), but it all starts with animal fats clogging insulin receptors, resulting in high blood sugar, too much insulin production, worn out pancreas, weight gain, fat, and lots of health problems including of course diabetes.
