JDRF ride is to cure diabetes and hundreds of people join this event and have one single goal – to find the ultimate cure. The city of Nashville is one of the cities which hosts the ride. The riders share their emotions about this event. Everyone can participate and it’s very exciting. The ride starts early in the morning, when it’s still dark outside. The national anthem is an inherent part of the event. All the people sing the anthem in one voice. The riders train a lot and people fundraise. Rider’s families come to encourage them and to cheer. JDRF ride participants are always excited about the ride and the overall spirit is high. Cherry Hill was a 19th-century farm on Kaighn Avenue / Route 38, owned by Abraham Browning. The farm property later became the Cherry Hill Inn (now a movie theater complex), as well as an office campus (now a shopping center with big-box retailers), and today’s Cherry Hill Towers and Cherry Hill Estates housing developments. When the township sought a new post office, another New Jersey municipality in Hunterdon County was using the name Delaware Township. The United States Postal Service insisted on a name change, suggesting “Deltown”. Delaware Township mayors Christian Weber and John Gilmour pursued public write-in campaigns to select possible titles, and chose Cherry Hill from suggestions that included Chapel Hill, Cherry Valley and Delaware City. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. For now, doctors don’t know the exact reason that lead to T1D, but they do know that your genes play a role. They also know that Type 1 Diabetes can result when something in the environment, like a virus, tells your immune system to go after your pancreas. Most of people with T1D have signs of this attack, called autoantibodies. They are presented in almost everyone who has the condition when their blood sugar is high. Type 1 diabetes can happen along with other autoimmune diseases, like Grave’s disease or vitiligo. The symptoms are often subtle, but can become severe. Founded by parents determined to find a cure for their children with T1D, JDRF expanded through grassroots fundraising and advocacy efforts to become a powerhouse in the scientific community with more than 100 U.S. locations and six international affiliates. We’ve funded nearly $2 billion in research to date and made significant progress in understanding and fighting the disease. We must keep up the pace of funding so progress doesn’t slow or stop entirely.
